The ‘Suture Chromic Gut Undyed He-3 5-0 18 12BX – G1792K’ is a top-quality, absorbable surgical suture made by Covidien. This suture is composed of purified connective tissue, mainly collagen, derived from the serosal layer of beef intestines. It is treated with a chromic salt solution to prolong the absorption time and dyed for increased visibility during surgery.
The suture is undyed and packaged in a solution containing 89% isopropanol, 10% water, and 1% triethanolamine. It is designed specifically for ophthalmic and cuticular applications, making it an ideal choice for general soft tissue approximation and ligation. However, it is not recommended for use in cardiovascular or neurological surgeries.
The suture elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues, which is followed by a gradual loss of tensile strength and suture mass over time. This is due to the enzymatic process that dissolves the surgical gut until it is completely absorbed.
This product comes in a reverse cutting style, size 5-0, and measures 18″ in length. It is available in a box of 12 sutures. Please note that this product is intended for single-use only and does not contain natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for patients with latex allergies.
